Our inaugural LAUNCH! STEM program is up and running and is already a success. The best part, without a doubt, is feedback we are receiving from parents telling us their kids are coming home talking about the program.
Here is one letter we received:
“Hello, my son started the LAUNCH program this week, and I wanted just wanted to say THANK YOU! My son has talked nonstop about everything he has learned this week under Mr. Williams’ leadership. He is a good student, often very quiet and doesn’t talk much unless he is excited.
“This week, he has talked more about science, what he learned and how much he enjoys the program. He is definitely excited for the weeks to come. Thank you for the opportunity for him to learn more about the career he plans to pursue in the future. This opportunity has sparked his interest even more, I am so grateful!
“The staff has been friendly, honest, and have made me feel very comfortable with leaving my son in their care daily! This opportunity is appreciated and I wanted to let you all know that I love what you are doing.”
We have visited Willow Run Airport, Yankee Air Museum, Ann Arbor Hands On Museum, Google Headquarters, and the Michigan Science Center, and will be meeting at the Taubman Architecture Center at Michigan. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of learners growing up in an area where they otherwise may not have been exposed to STEM subjects.
When we started the LAUNCH! program, we partnered with Detroit Area Pre College Engineering Program (DAPCEP) to connect with students interested in attending. We asked DAPCEP for the list of students and they gave us a roster of 40, but also told us there were an additional 60 interested. We didn’t feel right turning down the kids, so we opened two additional sites to accommodate them. This means we need to raise additional funds.
Sports Radio WTKA 1050
Ira Weintraub and Sports Talk WTKA 1050 gave me the opportunity this morning to talk about the program and the campaign we’re running. I really appreciate the help spreading the word about what we’re doing and helping us help these kids!
Listen to both segments of the interview below and then contribute to the campaign to help us reach our $10,000 goal!DONATE
